Paterson is the 3rd largest city in the state of New Jersey and is the largest in Passaic County, where it also serves as the county seat and is home to approximately 150,000 residents.

Historically known as the “Silk City” for its role in silk production during the latter half of the 19th century, Paterson is also one of the most diverse cities across the nation. In addition to whites, and blacks, Paterson has an increasing population of Hispanic,  Arab and Muslim people. In fact, Paterson has one of the largest Muslim communities in the United States.
